High University Officials from Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) Academia Platform participating Universities visited Ege University, Turkey from August 25-30, 2019. The purpose of the visit was sharing of knowledge/experience, benchmarking and signing of MoU for close collaboration with Ege University in the areas of mutual interest. The delegation included vice chancellors, Directors, Dean, Department heads and senior academicians from six universities, namely Bahirdar University-EiTEX-Ethiopia, Dedan Kimathi University of Science and Technology-Kenya, Sudan Technological University-Sudan, Kymbogo University-Uganda, Makerere University Business School-Uganda and Copperstone University of Zambia. ALLPI in close collaboration with Prof. Bari Basaran Dean, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science of Ege University facilitated and coordinated the visit program. Prof. Mekonnen Hailemariam, Advisor to the Executive Director, ALLPI, led the visiting delegation.
Prof. Bahri Basaran, Director, Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science, Ege University welcomed the guest delegation in the morning of August 26, 2019 and gave presentation about Graduate School of Natural and Applied Science and its programs as well as the services provided by the Graduate School to students, academics and the researchers.
In the afternoon of the same day the delegation was given the opportunity to meet the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Necdet BUDAK in the presence of Vice Rectors, Deans and other senior academicians of the Ege University.
From August 27 to 29 the guest delegation visited the different faculties, departments, research and teaching labs and other facilities of the University as well as leather processing machineries manufacturers in Izmir. The delegation was introduced to the different academic programs offered by Ege University in all levels doctorate, masters and bachelors degrees in the Leather Engineering Department and other departments of the different faculties.
Ege University has 15 faculties, 9 graduate schools, 15 vocational schools, a state Turkish Music conservatory, 6 Departments and 34 Application and Research Centers and about 60,000 undergraduate and associate degree students and 10,000 post graduate students. The University has also 3169 academicians and 3827 administrative staff.
The delegation expressed their admiration for the university and its academic programs as well as the services provided. The delegation was also absolutely delighted of the great hospitality received, the level of experience gained from this visit and the possibility of collaboration to be established with Ege University.
