Africa Leather and leather products market Research team from Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), Leather Industry Development Institute of Ethiopia (LIDI), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Ethiopia leather Industry Association (ELIA) has started its Market baseline survey in Rwanda, Kigali on August 17, 2022.

The purpose of this study is to report on the current leather and leather products market in Rwanda (and neighboring East African countries) and propose a promotional strategy to help prepare the participation of Ethiopian SMEs in the Textile, Apparel, and Leather Industries Investment Forum (TALIF), which is scheduled to take place in November 2022.

The Africa Leather Market Research team

ALLPI is part of this research team based on the MOU signed and the activities planned between the Leather Industry Development Institute of Ethiopia and ALLPI. The Research team will be on the baseline research activity until August 21, 2022.

During its stay the team will visit and discuss:

  1.  Trade fair “Gateway to Africa shoes and Leather (Kigali convention center)
  2.  Ministry of Trade and Industry of Rwanda
  3. Leather Industry Association
  4.  Chamber of Commerce
  5.  Selected Leather whole sellers, shopping malls
  6.  Ethiopian Embassy in Kigali

The team started its activity by visiting Ethiopian Embassy in Kigali and Hosted by H.E. Dhaba Debele , Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Rwanda. During discussion the team explained the purpose of the mission and HE Ambassador assured the team will get every support from the Embassy for the successful accomplishment of this activity in Rwanda and the research outcome. He also mentioned the initiatives that Ethiopian government take to promote the Ethiopian products mainly leather on East Africa community market to compensate what Ethiopia lost from AGOA beneficiary status.
