At the African Union Headquarters, on the margins of the 33rd Ordinary Assembly of African Union Heads of State and Government, the CEO and Chairman of the AeTrade Group, Mr. Mulualem Syoum and the Executive Director of the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), Prof. Mwinyikione Mwinyihija signed an MoU in the presence of the COMESA Secretary General, the AU Commissioner for Trade and Industry, other officials and media people, on February 10, 2020.

The African e-Trade Group is a social enterprise based in Canada, initiated by a group of African, multi-stakeholder and multi-talented professionals and entrepreneurs. The AeTrade Group works to empower the African digital economy.

ALLPI was also mandated by the 3rd Meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Industry (Nairobi Kenya-June 2019) and the COMESA Council of Ministers (Lusaka Zambia-November 2019) to adopt E-Commerce and to strengthen the trade portal currently in use by linking it with other regional platforms.

The scope the cooperation envisaged in the MoU, therefore, focuses on a trading platform and capabilities that boost African trade and African exports in leather and leather products and other areas of mutual interest that will promote and sustain value adding activities along the leather value chain in Africa.
