ALLPI attended the 11th International Conference on “Cotton, Textile, and Apparel Value Chain in Africa” and a pre-conference event on “Strengthening University-Industry Linkage to support the Ethiopian Tamrit (Let Ethiopia Produce) Initiative” held on 25th – 27th May 2023 in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
Strengthening University-Industry linkage to support the Ethiopia Tamrit (Let Ethiopia Produce) Initiative was officially opened by H.E. Melaku Alebel, Minister, Ministry of Industry of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia on 25th May 2023.
H.E. Melaku Alebel, in his opening speech underscored that the 11th CTA conference as a special conference as it has brought academicians, policy makers and private sector stakeholders in one hall to discuss pressing issues and challenges in the industry. Further he spoke about the objectives of launching the Ethiopia Tamrit Initiative and praised the University for making the initiative as the thematic area of the Conference. Furthermore, the Conference being conducted during the week of the 60th anniversaries of Bahir Dar University, and Africa Union Commission makes the conference as special event.
ALLPI was represented by Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin, Ag. Executive Director and Mr. Awlachew Sintie, Information Technology and M&E Expert.
During the 11th CTA about 29 scientific papers were presented by lead scholars and leaders in the industry; of which 9 were leather and leather products papers.
There was a parallel session on leather. In this session, 4 studies related to leather and leather products were presented and discussed. During this parallel session, LIDI, EITEX, Solidaridad and ALLPI agreed to work together to promote the leather industry in a collaborative way.
Mini Exhibition was organized by EITEX and most of the exhibitors were on leather. During the Conference a special fashion show event, including leather, was organized by the EITEX involving fashion designers from South Africa, graduates of EITEX, and students of EITEX.
ALLPI was given an opportunity to announce the Africa design competition organized by the Leather and Hides Council of America (L&HCA) and ALLPI. Accordingly, the Design Competition event has been successfully promoted during the Conference with detail information about the objectives, requirements, important timelines, and the call for volunteer judges.
