    Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) delegates at the invitation of the secretary General of ARSO participated in the 29th General Assembly and Africa Standardization week held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, 5 – 7 July 2023. The ALLPI delegates Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin Acting Executive Director (Mission Leader) and Mr. Harrison Mungai (Tannery and Leather Value Chain Expert) participated in the Africa Standardization Day. The African Day of Standardization has been a series of an annual events and this year it was   the 29th of the series of annual events. The African Day of Standardization is celebrated with the aim of raising awareness among African policy makers, Leaders, Regulators, Industry, Academia, consumers and the entire citizens on the benefits of standardization and to celebrate the milestone of Africa Standardization.

    The 29th General Assembly and Africa Day of Standardization was celebrated under the Theme “Acceleration of African Continental Free Trade Area Implementation One Standard, One Test – One Certificate Accepted Everywhere.” The Theme is in the context of the AU year 2023, theme on Accelerated Implementation of the AfCFTA.

  • ALLPI representing the Africa Leather Sector on Global Trade and investment Mission 2023

    Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) participated on Global Trade and investment Mission 2023 (South Africa CAPE TOWN) (25th - 31st MARCH 2023) to represent Africa Leather sector in general and to explore the collaboration areas to support the Africa leather value chain.

    The objectives of this investment and Trade mission are to create awareness about the potential of the leather sector in Africa for Trade and investment and brief the participants about the ALLPI’s activities in facilitating the development of the leather sector in the region; that in turn allows participants from Africa and other part of the world know the potential and invest in Africa sustainably. This also created networking with the conference participants/Exhibitors and the potential investment funders for the future support activities to Africa Leather sector in general.

    Africa Organization for Standardization (ARSO) paid courtesy visit to ALLPI Headquarters on Friday March 3, 2023.

    The ARSO delegates who were led by the Technical Director Mr. Rueben Gisore, have discussed several issues with ALLPI Experts Team members led by its Acting Executive Director Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin. During the Meeting, it was agreed that the two organizations can work together on any activities related to quality & standards, products certification, and awareness creation.

    The Secretary-General (SG) of COMESA, Her Excellency Chileshe Mpundu Kapwepwe visited ALLPI on Friday, 17th February 2023. This was a courtesy call visit to ALLPI, which is one of the COMESA institutions endorsed by the COMESA heads of states, and mandated to facilitate the development of the leather sector in Africa in general and the COMESA region in particular. She was accompanied by the Executive Support Officer in her office, Mrs. Maluba S. Sinyambo and the Chief Resource Mobilization and International Cooperation (Secretary General’s office- International Cooperation Unit).

    The purpose of the visit was for her Excellency to get briefings on ALLPI activities towards the leather sector development in the 10 member countries of ALLPI and also identify areas where the COMESA secretariat can provide support.

    Honorable Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano MBS, Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry of Kenya received Africa Leather & Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) delegates led by Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin, Acting Executive Director, Programs Coordinator at her office on the 6th of November 2023.

    The purpose of the visit by ALLPI to Kenya was to propose and get guidance from the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry about the cohosting of the 16th Annual Regional Consultative Forum in Mombasa, Kenya.  

    After self-introduction, the honorable Cabinet Secretary opened the meeting by warmly welcoming the ALLPI delegates and invited the head of the delegates for submission about the purpose of the ALLPI’s visit.  The Acting ED started his briefings by thanking the honorable Cabinet Secretary for receiving the ALLPI delegates despite her busy schedules.  He then briefed the honorable Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary and other officials of the ministry   what ALLPI is and does, what is the Annual Regional Consultative Forum and the proposal to cohost the 16th Annual Regional Consultative Forum in Mombasa, Kenya.
