• ALLPI at the meeting Organized by the Ministry of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism of Burundi

    Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), following the invitation made by the Honorable Minister of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism of Burundi, H.E. Marie Chantal NIJIMBERE, participated in the meeting held on 11th February 2022 in Bujumbura, Burundi. The purpose of the meeting was to jointly develop Action Plan in some 24 activity areas that were identified as priority projects by the Ministry for the year 2022.  The meeting was attended by more than 50 representatives of different international and national institutions that included World Food Program, UNDP, ALLPI, UNIDO and many others and was chaired by the Honorable Minister H.E. Marie Chantal NIJIMBERE. ALLPI was represented by its Programs Coordinator, Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin and the Advisor to the Executive director, Prof. Mekonnen Hailemariam.

  • ALLPI held Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop for SMEs in Bujumbura, Burundi

    Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI) organized a training of 30 SMEs as ToT in transformative Entrepreneurship, Footwear and Leather Goods Design, Craftsmanship, Export readiness, Costing/Pricing and Record Keeping at the Kamange Artisans Production Center, Burundi, from June 22 to July 4, 2022. The training workshop was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism, Burundi, under the BADEA Technical Assistance grant. The purpose of the training workshop was to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of SMEs to attain growth through shifting their mindset and embrace changes, enhance SMEs technical capacity and economies of scale to supply both Public and Private Sector institutional buyers.

    The Minister of Trade, Transport, Industry and Tourism, Hon. Marie Chantal NIJIMBERE reiterates her Government’s commitment to Support the Leather sector SMEs in Burundi, as she commends ALLPI for providing Technical Support to the Leather Sector MSMEs to boost Productivity and Competiveness.

  • H. E. Minister Marie Chantal Nijembre launched the Kamenge Leather SMEs Incubation Center Satellite Design Studio in Bujumbura, Burundi

    Burundi Incubation Center Launch

    A Small and Medium Enterprises service providing center established at Kamenge Artisans Production Center was launched by H.E. Madam Marie Chantal Nijembre, Minister of Commerce, Transport, Industry and Tourism on the 4th of November 2022. In the Launching ceremony, ALLPI delegation composed of Mr. Ghebregziabher Ghebremedhin programmes Coordinator and Professor Mekonnen Hailemariam Advisor to the Executive Director attended the launching ceremony following the invitation of the honorable Minister Madam Marie Chantal Nijembre.

    H.E. in her speech hailed the establishment of the center which is expected to contribute to the transformation process of the leather sector in Burundi. She reiterated government’s commitment to support the leather sector in general and in making the incubation center workable in particular. She gave her guidance on how the incubation center will be managed.  She commended ALLPI’s support to the leather sector in Burundi citing the facilitation of the establishment of the Kamenge Incubation center as one of the collaborations between Burundi and the ALLPI. She thanked ALLPI for all the support to the leather sector in general and coming to attend the launching of the incubation center in particular. She assured the delegates that her ministry will work to strengthen further the partnership with the ALLPI. Further she assured that the government of Burundi will honor its commitment to ALLPI.
